It is good to note that while many marketing focuses on pages and keywords, Google has been encouraging people-first content since August 2022 in their Helpful Content Update update.
They have continued reinforcing that guidance through updates to Search Central and its ranking systems.
Still, almost every week, another yet article or video appears claiming to have discovered the latest SEO secret.
Sometimes it’s worth remembering that the underlying principle hasn’t really changed.
𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝘀𝘆𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗹𝘆.
Of course, keywords still matter.
They’re how people express their needs.
But they’re not the need of the people themselves.
That’s why AWE follows the principle of “𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗦𝗘𝗢 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲, 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀.”
It begins with understanding the person behind the search.
The keywords then follow.
It’s one of the reasons I’ve gradually shifted my own thinking away from optimising pages in isolation and towards understanding people, trust, and business outcomes as one connected system.
